Scientists Invented a New External Loop Airlift Slurry Reactor

A novel external loop airlift slurry reactor was developed by the group led by Prof. YANG Chao from Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). In this type of slurry reactor, an external loop airlift reactor and two parallel hydrocyclones for separating the clear liquid from the slurry were integrated to realize the processes of mixing, reaction, and separation simultaneously. The gas-liquid-solid slurry reactor, where particles act as catalyst, has been widely applied in energy chemical industry, fine chemistry industry, material chemical industry, and pharmaceutical industry. It has advantages of uniform temperature d...

Scientist Reveals the Pollution Status and Potential Negative Effects of Triazine Herbicides in Coastal Waters

The research team led by Prof. ZHANG Yongyu from Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), for the first time on a large spatial scale, systematically surveyed the distribution of ten widely used triazine herbicides in the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea With the rapid growth of global population and food demand, herbicides are being excessively used worldwide. More than half of the herbicides in market are photosynthetic inhibitors, which can cause serious negative effects on photosynthetic organ...

Scientists Developed a High Efficient and Stable Hybrid Nanostructured Catalyst

A research team led by Prof. YANG Yong from Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has developed a reusable heterogeneous non-precious iron nanocomposite comprising metallic Fe–Fe3C nanoparticles and Fe–Nx sites on N-doped porous carbon, which allows for highly efficient synthesis of quinolines and quinazolinones via oxidative coupling of amines and aldehydes using H2O2 as the green oxidant in aqueous solution under mild conditions. The development of high efficient and stable non-precious metal-based heterogeneous catalysts to replace noble metal catalysts is an important research topic from the viewpoint of green and sustainable chemistry yet remains a big challenge.
