Extended Energy Big Data & Strategy Research Center (Group Cluster)
Introduction

The Extended Energy Big Data and Strategy Research Center (EEBD&SRC) is an innovation application, development and strategy research center for energy big data. The center aims at developing innovative theories, technology, platforms, and services based on extended energy big data (EEBD), so as to solve issues arising in the context of energy development. The center is committed to building an interconnected EEBD, with energy at its core, connecting data related to various aspects of reality (society, economy, environment, ecology, climate, market, engineering, science and technology, policy, etc.), while developing advanced technology to discover interrelations between these dimensions, and finally applying those findings and technologies to smart energy, smart management, and smart green and low carbon, so as to meet the needs of governments, enterprises, and industries. There are five groups within the center: The EEBD-based Smart System Group, EEBD-based Smart Energy Group, EEBD-based Smart Management Group, EEBD-based Smart Green and Low-carbon Development Group, and EEBD-based Data Technology Service Group. EEBD&SRC is committed to contributing to China’s ambitious goals of carbon peaking in 2030 and carbon neutrality in 2060. EEBD&SRC is one of the seven key R&D units supported by the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Shandong Energy Institute (SEI). The center is led by a director, Prof. TIAN Yajun, and an honorary director, Prof. XIE Kechang, the former vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

Prof. Dr. TIAN Yajun is the director of the Extended Energy Big Data and Strategy Research Center (EEBD&SRC). He is an expert in energy big data, energy strategy, life cycle assessment (LCA), technical and economic evaluation, etc. He is an advocate and pioneer of building and applying energy big data. For the first time, he proposed extended energy big data (EEBD) as a new subject. He dedicated to discovering the laws hiding energy, society, economy, environment, ecology and climate, and solving problems encountered in energy development by means of big data. He has built up the first EEBD system of China, developed China's first comprehensive energy knowledge service system (http://energy.ckcest.cn), the first energy spatial management application research technology (ESMART) platform (http://egis.ckcest.cn), and the first EEBD interconnecting platform. Dr. TIAN has undertaken or participated in many research projects from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Natural Science of Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and some enterprises, with a total funding of over 3 million USD. He has published 3 books in English, 2 books in Chinese, 6 granted patents, and more than 100 scientific papers. Dr. TIAN serves as the vice chairman of the Digital Energy sub-committee of the Chinese National Committee of the International Society of Digital Earth (CNISDE), the director of the Low-Carbon Development Management Branch of the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics (CSOOPEM), and the executive director of the China Energy Society.
