Molecular & Microbial Engineering Group
Introduction

Molecular & Microbial Engineering Group is dedicated to the study of microbial biochemistry and molecular biology, especially the function and structure of enzymes, cellular energy metabolism, and the construction of high-efficiency cell factories for the production of biofuels, providing upstream processes and technical supports for the development of bioenergy. The team has 11 staff members, including 2 professors, 5 associate professors, and 4 research assistants. In addition, there are 5 post-doctors, 2 PhD students and 7 postgraduates. Team members have diverse disciplinary backgrounds, distributed in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and cell biology.

Director of Center/Group
Prof. LI Fuli
Professor LI Fuli, head of the Molecular & Microbial Engineering Group, leads more than 10 research projects supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation, more than 40 million RMB in funding. He and coauthors have published more than 100 research papers, including over 70 SCI papers, cited 1633 times (Web of science), and H-index is 21. Dr. Li has discovered the flavin-based electron bifurcation, which solved the problem about energy metabolism in anaerobic Clostridium that has lasted for 50 years. Dr. Li has also found the microalgae with high yield of nervonic acid, and engineered yeast with high yield of nervonic acid through synthetic biotechnology, providing strong technical support for bioenergy related industries.
