Research Interest

1. Inspired by the special wettability interfaces of biological species, researchers aim to develop disruptive enhanced oil recovery technologies that focus on engineering the oil/rock interface.

2. Inspired by the high-efficient energy conversion of electric eels, the group research on the bioinspired ion nanochannel membranes to harvest the osmotic energy, focusing on the novel membrane design concept to promote the industrial applications.

3. Taking inspiration from the diving bell spider, submerged hydrophobic surfaces would trap appreciable amounts of gas at the micro-/nanoscale, which would allow gaseous CO2 to accumulate at the solid-liquid interface. By further taking inspirations from enzyme, the bioinspired catalysts with special wettability could work as practical candidate for the scaling up of CO2 reduction at industrial level current density (500 mA/cm2).

4. The group aim to provide solutions, e.g., biomimetic catalysts, to key technical challenges in utilizing the renewable resources to greatly improve efficiency of hydrogen production.
