Introduction of Lecturer:
Dr. David H. Sherman is the Hans W. Vahlteich professor of medicinal chemistry, College of Pharmacy and the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education at the University of Michigan. He is also the Co-Founder/Co-Managing Director of the Pharma Forensics Laboratories. He is regarded as one of the famous leaders in the field of synthetic biology. He received his B.A. degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1978 and his Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from Columbia University, New York City in 1998. Dr. David H. Sherman specializes in the synthetic chemistry, marine microorganisms and drug discovery. Dr. Sherman has authored and co-authored over 250 research articles published in the journals of Science, Nature, Nature Chemistry, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of the American Chemical Society et al.. Due to his outstanding contributions in synthetic biology, Prof. Sherman received numerous honors and awards including the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow, the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, the Charles Thom Award and other awards.
