Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chiang Mai University, Thailand Signed the Memorandum of Understanding

On October 21, the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, CAS (QIBEBT) and Chiang Mai University (CMU) was held at the Institute. Charin Techapun, President Representative & Vice President, Professor of Practice, CMU; Sujinda Sriwattana, Dean of Faculty of Agro-Industry, CMU; Noppol Leksawasdi, Director of Office of Research Administration, CMU; Yuthana Phimolsiripol, Director of Food and Innovation Center, CMU; Yottana Khunatorn, CMU Biopolis Bioprocess Engineering Expert, Energy Research and Development Institute, CMU; JIANG Heqing, Vice Director of QIBEBT. Professor LI Fuli, Director of C1 Biotechnology Research Center and Professor LIU Tianzhong, Microbial Manufacturing Engineering Center of QIBEBT attended the signing ceremony.

Mr. JIANG Heqing, Vice Director of QIBEBT first expressed his sincere welcome to the visit of Chiang Mai University. He Pointed out that the nearly 10-year cooperation between the Institute and CMU is a concrete initiative to deeply implement the eight actions proposed by President XI Jinping in the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Third “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation. The two sides jointly undertook the international cooperation project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and have solidly carried out the research on the application of zero pollution discharge process to improve the fermentation and production process of biobutanol and the zero pollution discharge biorefinery process of lignocellulosic fuel ethanol, which has put forward an effective way to solve the problem of using waste biomass as the raw material to be effectively converted into energy by biology. It is hoped that the two sides will further strengthen cooperation, complement each other's advantages, and continuously optimize and innovate in the cooperation mode to achieve a win-win situation.

Mr. Charin Techapun, Vice President of CMU, said that QIBEBT is a systematic research institution in the fields of bioenergy and bioprocess, and has achieved a series of excellent scientific research results in these fields. Thailand is vigorously developing renewable energy, CMU has also carried out a systematic layout, and the two sides have a huge space for cooperation in a number of new energy fields. I hope to establish stable and long-term cooperation with the institute and jointly practice the "Belt and Road" initiative, in the fields of biology, new energy and other areas of win-win cooperation. At the same time, he expressed his gratitude to the Institute for its trust and support to CMU.

At the symposium, Mr. LI Fuli introduced the organizational structure, scientific research development plan, and research fields of the institute, etc. Mr. Noppol Leksawasdi and others introduced the overview of CMU, talent training and scientific and technological layout, as well as the progress made in the construction of CMU Biopolis Ecosystem, the comprehensive utilization of waste biomass, solar energy and hydrogen energy and other aspects.

Subsequently, Vice Director JIANG Heqing and Vice President Charin Techapun signed the agreement on behalf of both parties. (Text and Image by XIAO Yan)
