A Japanese Electrochemistry Expert Speaks at QIBEBT
Prof. Takeo OHSAKA, a leading expert in electrochemistry from Tokyo Institute of Technology, was invited to speak at the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences on Mar 30. Prof. Jianfei WU, the leader of the Super-Power Battery Technology Group, hosted this lecture and delivered a welcome message.
Prof. OHSAKA gave a lecture entitled "Design of Metal Structures Encapsulated in N-doped Carbon Layers as Tunable Catalysts for Electrochemical Applications" during the visit. In his lecture, he introduced the preparation of nanoparticles of transition metals encapsulated in a nitrogen-doped carbon shell (M@N-C, M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu or Fe alloys) and their application in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) as efficient catalysts. The excellent academic lecture has provided a valuable reference for the researchers, followed by a warm discussion.
Prof. OHSAKA is the professor of Tokyo Institute of Technology, the editorial director and vice-chairman of the Electrochemical Society of Japan, and the vice chairman of Kanto Branch of the Chemical Society of Japan. He is an outstanding scientist in the field of cathode oxygen reduction (ORR) kinetics and catalysis, and has published more than 400 SCI-indexed papers in international top journals, such as JACS, Anal. Chem., etc.
During his stay in QIBEBT, Prof. OHSAKA also visited the lab of the Super-Power Battery Technology Group and had instructive academic discussions with the staffs and students. This visit is expected to facilitate potential international collaborations between Tokyo Institute of Technology and QIBEBT.
