CLIB 2nd China Delegation November 2016
After the publication of the BMBF China Strategy 2015-2020 in October 2015, CLIB2021 (CLIB refers to Cluster Industrielle Biotechnologie e.V. or Cluster for Industrial Biotechnology) decided to plan its second China delegation trip.
Since our last visit to the region in April 2015, the cooperation between CLIB members and CLIB itself with the Chinese partners has been intensified. Consequently, in November 2016 the target regions of the delegation trip were Qingdao and Nanjing where the CLIB members Qingdao Institute of Bio-Energy and Bioprocess Technology, CAS (QIBEBT) and Nanjing Tech University are located.
The last destination of the trip was the region around Shanghai, where we visited the Shanghai Jiao Tong University organized by the Municipality International Cooperation Department of the Science Technology Commission of Shanghai. The participants of the German delegation, supported by the BMBF, consisted of 14 representatives from Academia and SME.
At the different locations, the delegation visited universities and companies. A highlight was the visit of the 5th Chinese International Technology Transfer Conference 2016 (CITTC) with over 500 participants. In several workshops the delegation experienced once again the well-known high level of Chinese research institutions and was pleased to see their interest in German technology.
Our “CLIB-Qingdao Biotechnology Workshop 2016” made it to the news publication ChinaDaily. It published on its website that speakers from CLIB2021, from Chinese academia such as Shandong University, CAS institutions (including Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Institute of Microbiology, Institute of Oceanology and QIBEBT), and Qingdao-based enterprises, such as Bright Moon Seaweed Group and Vland Biotech Group, exchanged ideas and searched for potential partners.
Zheng Yonghong, QIBEBT Assistant Director General, said: "The workshop has contributed to a mutual understanding among all its participants, and it will lay a better foundation for further cooperation in biotechnology between Germany and China".
In summary, the second delegation journey could meet the expectations raised by the first visit. The regions visited had a high level of expertise in the fields of biotechnology and bioeconomy and emphasised this with a very pronounced hospitality.
