QIBEBT Attends 4th Environment-Enhancing Energy Conference 2016

The Chinese Academy of Sciences' Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) got actively involved in an international environment-enhancing energy conference recently. The Environment-Enhancing Energy (E2-Energy) technology is to produce hydrocarbon fuels/chemicals from biowastes (including those from animal, human and bioprocessing) and algae, and meanwhile capture carbon, reuse nutrients and clean wastewater.

The 4th Environment-Enhancing Energy (E2-Energy) Conference 2016 was held in the China Agricultural University at Beijing on Jul 6-8. Prof. PENG Hui, the Executive Director General of QIBEBT, was invited to join the Scientific Committee of the E2-Energy Conference. An invited speech titled "Renewable Biofuels and Chemicals: From Thermochemical Conversion to Novel Approaches" was delivered by Prof. MU Xindong, the Director of Technology Transfer Department of QIBEBT, who also chaired the "Thermochemical Conversion" session of the conference. The QIBEBT's talk gave an overview of the approaches to produce renewable biofuels/chemicals and a summary of recent key R&D advances at QIBEBT. Prof. ZHANG Yang, the leader of the Waste Valorization and Water Reuse Group at QIBEBT, also joined the conference for discussion. As one of China's primary national research institutions for renewable energy and green materials, QIBEBT also pays increasing attention to the impact of energy production on the environment.

The conference addressed the development and prospects of the E2-Energy technology, with the aims to meeting our entire liquid fuel need, achieving net-zero carbon emission and complete water reuse, and cycling the nutrients in the feedstocks, and is supposed to promote the investment and cooperation between academia, industry and governments.
