Interim Editor-in-Chief of JBC Gives Two Lectures on QIBEBT International Expert Forum
On Apr 19, Prof. F. Peter Guengerich, a distinguished expert in the field of cytochrome P450 enzymes, was invited to the “International Expert Forum” of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences. On the forum, he delivered two lectures including “Chemical Mechanisms of Catalysis by Cytochrome P450 Enzymes: New Aspects of Cytochrome P450 Oxidations of Alkaloids, Vitamins, & Steroids” and “Advice to Scientists Regarding Publishing, with Fcus on the Journal of Biological Chemistry”. In his first lecture, Prof. Guengerich introduced the diverse oxidative mechanisms and functional properties of a number of human cytochrome P450 enzymes. As the interim Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), in the second lecture, he introduced the 105 years' history and current situation of this prestigious journal of American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He talked about “How to write a scientific paper?” and “What to do when revising a paper?” in detail. He also shared his research experiences and gave some advice regarding publishing a high quality paper with young scientists and graduate students of QIBEBT.
Prof. Guengerich, from the Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine of Vanderbilt University at Nashville, Tennessee, specializes in the metabolism of carcinogens and drugs by cytochrome P450 enzymes, the bioactivation of halogenated hydrocarbons, and the interaction of DNA polymerase with carcinogen-modified DNA. Due to his outstanding contributions in biochemistry and molecular biology, Prof. Guengerich received the William C. Rose Award in 2005.
Prof. LI Shengying, the group leader of Enzyme Engineering Group of QIBEBT, hosted these two lectures. This visit is expected to facilitate potential collaborations between Vanderbilt University and QIBEBT.
The “International Expert Forum” was launched by QIBEBT in 2013 with the aim of strengthening academic communications with well-known international scientists and improving the research and innovation expertise via international collaborations.
