United Nations University Vice-Rector Visits QIBEBT

Max Bond, the Vice-Rector and Executive Officer of the United Nations University (UNU), visited the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on Apr 14. WANG Yanfen, the Vice-President of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), and SUI Hongjian, the Deputy Director General of QIBEBT, joined the visit. 

The meeting was hosted by LU Xuefeng, the Deputy Director General of QIBEBT, who warmly welcomed the guests. An introductory talk titled "Synergy of Research and Teaching @ QIBEBT" was delivered by XIN Hongchuan, the Deputy Director of Science and Technology Department of QIBEBT. Max Bond then gave a brief introduction of UNU, and proposed a potential collaboration between UNU, UCAS, Qingdao Municipal Government and QIBEBT, mainly based on R&D of renewable energy technology. WANG Yanfen, addressed the importance of the cooperation, and expected the concrete actions in the near future. LU Xuefeng said that, as the China's primary national research institution for renewable energy and green materials, QIBEBT is willing and ready to start the collaboration with UNU, based on its well-established relationship with CAS and Qingdao (QIBEBT was jointly founded by CAS, Qingdao and Shandong Province in 2006). 

Monica Oliphant (the former President of the International Solar Energy Society), Wenhua XI (the Director-General of UNIDO International Solar Energy Center), Luohui LIANG (the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability of UNU), and related officers from the Qingdao Municipal Government attended the meeting.
