UFZ Prof. Hans H. Richnow visited QIBEBT
Prof. Hans H. Richnow from The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Germany, was invited by Biohydrogen & Biogas Group to attend the QIBEBT International Expert Forum on October 29th.
Prof. Hans H. Richnow presented his research entitled as “Stable isotope fingerprinting of biogas for the assessment of methanogenesis in anaerobic digesters”. In his presentation, he introduced the current state of art in Germany biogas engineering and detailed the biochemical process of methane production. The newly developed stable isotope fractionation in combination with T-RFLP technology was applied to explore methanogenesis and analyze the structure of bioreactor microbial communities as a function of inhibition factor and operating conditions in detail. This will provide fundamental knowledge for understanding methanogenesis and maintaining stable operation of the reactor.
During the period at QIBEBT, Prof. Richnow had an academic discussion with group members in detail. This further established the basis of scientific cooperation in biogas field.
