Entrusted by China-US Advanced Biofuels working committee, a delegation consisted of senior scientists and managers from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Argonne National Laboratory, Boeing Research & Technology China and National Energy Research Center of Liquid Biofuels, visited the QIBEBT. Deputy director general Dr. PENG Hui receives the delegation. Assistant director general Dr. LU Xuefeng hosted the meeting.

This visit is to find out proper partners and complementary topics for cooperation between the US and China in the domain of advanced biofuels, especially in algae-based energy. During the meeting, Dr. John Holladay delivers a presentation on the programmatic layout of PNNL’s bioenergy R&D and on the works carried out under the National Alliance on Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts (NAABB) and National Advanced Biofuels Consortium (NABC). Mr. Joe Yin from Beoing and Dr. LU Xuefeng from the QIBEBT introduce Boeing global R&D strategies and the research works in the Joint Laboratory for Sustainable Aviation Biofuels, respectively.

The delegation also specifically talks with research groups including Functional Genomics, Metabolic Engineering, Energy Algae, Biohydrogen and Biogas, Thermochemical Conversion, Green Chemocatalysis and Strategy Research and Assessment.

The visit improves the cooperation between the PNNL and QIBEBT, which also paves the way to a successful China-US Advanced Biofuels Working Committee Meeting that will be held in Beijing.
