On October 20th 2008, Prof. Zoharn of Marine Biological Engineering Center, Maryland University,U.S.A., accompanied by Pro. Peijun ZHANG from Institute of Oceanology, CAS, visits Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, CAS. Prof Lisheng WANG, Director of Qingdao Institute of BioEnergy and Bioprocess Technology, CAS, holds a seminar to exchange ideas with these visitors. Prof. Mo XIAN, Deputy Head of the Department of Science and Technology, Prof Jian XU, the director of Bioenergy Resource Centre, and some researchers and postgraduate students attend the seminar. The Center of Marine Biotechnology (COMB), Maryland University,USA, is a world-wide well-recognized research centre, with focuses on applying modern biology and biotechnology approaches to study, protect and improve the resources in ocean. In the seminar, Pro.Zohar gives an overview of current researches conducted in the Center of Marine Biotechnology, and introduces current situation and future prospective of utilizing microalgae to produce biofuel. Prof.Jian XU introduces the development plan of our institute. After the talk, Prof. Zohar has a discussion with relevant researchers, and reaches agreement on the cooperative program in the future. After the seminar, Pro.Zohar visits the new campus of the institute, and has a great impression on the strategic layout and operational mode of the institute. This academic exchange is very important to further promote the cooperation of our institute and the centre of Marine Biotechnology (COMB), Maryland University, USA., and to accelerate the development of microalgae bioenergy in the institute.
