Since its establishment in 2006 jointly by CAS, the Provincial government of Shandong and the municipal government of Qingdao, QIBEBT's research has paid attention to the scientific and economic demands of China in energy, resources and environment. Over the last decade, the institute has established a good track record of major academic and industrial accomplishments in the fields of renewable energy, novel bio-materials and advanced biotechnology research. These achievements have substantially contributed to national and regional economic and social development. 

QIBEBT is home to over 1000 scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative employees,  and about 400 graduate students. Our faculty members include 60 researchers who have received awards from national, provincial, and CAS talent programs. QIBEBT has earned a good reputation as a comprehensive institution covering all facets of bioenergy research from laboratory discovery, fundamental understanding, to technology transfer paving the way to industrial applications. The intense academic and relaxed atmosphere has attracted outstanding scientists and engineers for their academic career. 

QIBEBT is embracing the new opportunities to pursue fundamental scientific advances towards the highest levels and the forefront of bioenergy field, and to meet the most critical technical challenge towards the production of valuable technologies for industry. We will continue to seize the historical opportunity of the "three-in-one" development and the strategic opportunity of "dual carbon" with a never-slack state and an indomitable attitude, to promote the output of major achievements, and to make substantial contributions to the development of national science and technology. At the same time, we are striving to realize the leap-forward development of the institute, and serve the national and regional economic and social development to make major scientific and technological contributions.
