Prof. Blaine Pfeifer Gave a lecture in QIBEBT
On Jan 24, Prof. Blaine Pfeifer, a distinguished expert in the field of synthetic biology from the University at Buffalo, was invited to the “2017 Academic Lectures on Synthetic Biology” of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Blaine Pfeifer delivered a lecture entitled “Engineering Natural Product Biosynthesis for Health and Environmental Applications”. This presentation featured Escherichia coli in the heterologous production of complex natural products utilized across health and environmental applications. Each application was driven by the metabolic and process engineering tools afforded by E. coli. He also shared his research experiences and gave valuable advice with young scientists of QIBEBT.
Prof. Shengying Li, the group leader of Enzyme Engineering Group of QIBEBT, as well as the director of Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, hosted this lecture. This visit was expected to facilitate potential collaborations between University at Buffalo and QIBEBT.
