NSFC-ISF Joint Scientific Research Program Grants Two Applications from QIBEBT

Two joint scientific research program applications with the Chinese partners from the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will be co-funded by National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Israel Science Foundation (ISF) from Jan 1, 2017 to Dec 31, 2019.

Both the granted projects are in the life science field. One program is entitled as "The Hepatitis C Virus Envelope Glycoprotein Dimerization as a Model for Helix-helix Interactions in Membrane Proteins", led by Prof. YAO Lishan, the leader of the Simulation and Modeling Group of QIBEBT. The collaborator is Associate Prof. Jordan CHILL from the Bar Ilan University. "Decoding the Pseudobacteroides Cellulosolvens Biomass-Sensing Mega-Regulon" is another funded project, led by Prof. FENG Yingang, the project leader of the Metabolomics Group of QIBEBT. The corresponding partner is Prof. Edward A. BAYER from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

NSFC and ISF called for cooperative projects in the fields of life science and medicine in Nov of 2015. Totally there were 125 submitted proposals, 28 of which were approved to be funded in the life science field and 9 were granted in the medicine field.

The granting of the NSFC-ISF Joint Scientific Research Program to two QIBEBT scientists demonstrates the superior innovation capabilities of fundamental research in life science at QIBEBT.
