A Japanese Catalysis and Synthesis Scientist Speaks on QIBEBT International Expert Forum
Prof. Masahiko YAMAGUCHI, a distinguished expert in the field of selective catalytic conversion of C-H bonds and chiral recognition of macro-oligomers, was invited to the “2016 International Expert Forum” of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences on Oct 27.
On the forum, he delivered a lecture entitled “Transition-metal-catalyzed Synthesis of Organoheteroatom Compounds”. In his lecture, Prof. YAMAGUCHI introduced the control means for selective activation of C-H bonds of aromatics and the relationship between the structure design of catalysts and the selective activation of C-H bonds. In addition, he introduced a number of major challenges in this field including the dependence relationship of selective C-H bonds of aromatics on active centers of metal, as well as the control approaches for selective catalytic routes. He also shared his research experiences and gave valuable advice regarding academic problems and graduate education with young scientists and graduate students of QIBEBT.
Prof. YAMAGUCHI, from Tohoku University, specializes in selective conversion of C-H bonds, synthesis and chiral recognition of oligomers. Due to his outstanding contributions in these areas, Prof. YAMAGUCHI received numerous honors and awards including the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists and the Synthetic Organic Chemistry Award of Japan.
Prof. WAN Xiaobo, the leader of Bio-inspired Polymers and Functional Materials Group at QIBEBT, hosted this lecture. This visit is expected to facilitate potential collaborations between Tohoku University and QIBEBT.
