A Canada Corrosion Management Professor Speaks on QIBEBT International Expert Forum

Prof. Y. Frank CHENG, a distinguished expert in the field of oil/gas and pipeline corrosion science and engineering, was invited to the “International Expert Forum”  where he spoke about “Technical Challenges of Oil Corrosion Management and Safety Engineering”.

Prof. CHENG, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary, Canada, has made some important breakthroughs in the fields of corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, electrochemistry and electrocatalysis. Prof. CHENG is also the fellow of NACE International, the Corrosion Society, the Canada Research Chair in Pipeline Engineering, and the member of U.S. Congressional Technical Advisory on Safety of Oil Pipeline Transportation.

The host of the forum was the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) and the host of the lecture was Prof. WU Jianfei, group leader of Super-Power Battery Technology Group of QIBEBT on Dec 15. Before the lecture, Prof. SUI Hongjian, deputy director general of QIBEBT, warmly welcomed the guest. Prof. CHENG introduced challenges of the international corrosion on oil/gas pipeline from three aspects and the latest progress in the pipeline corrosion in detail, and shared his experiences with researchers at QIBEBT.

The visit is expected to facilitate potential collaboration between the University of Calgary and QIBEBT.

The “International Expert Forum” was launched by QIBEBT in 2013 with the aim of strengthening academic communication with well-known international scientists and improving the research and innovation expertise via international cooperation.
