A US Plant Biology Professor Speaks on QIBEBT International Expert Forum

Prof. Michael G. HAHN, a distinguished expert in the field of cell biology and biosynthesis of plant cell walls, was invited to the “International Expert Forum”  where he spoke about “Analysis of Biomass Structure and Processing Using Antibody Probes”.

Prof. HAHN, from the Department of Plant Biology at the University of Georgia, US,. has made some important breakthroughs in the research of hemicellulose biosynthetic pathway and addressed the function of GATL and FUT which are part of hemicellulose biosynthesis in plants and has done a lot of research on monoclonal antibodies against polysaccharides.

The host of the forum was the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) and the host of the lecture was Prof. ZHOU Gongke, group leader of Plant Metabolic Engineering Group of QIBEBT on Oct 19. Prof. HAHN introduced the production of monoclonal antibodies against polysaccharide and how to use those antibodies to study the structure of cell wall and  shared his experiences with researchers at QIBEBT.

The visit is expected to facilitate potential collaboration between the University of Georgia and QIBEBT.

The “International Expert Forum” was launched by QIBEBT in 2013 with the aim of strengthening academic communication with well-known international scientists and improving the research and innovation expertise via international cooperation.
