QIBEBT Scientist Edits Biofuels: From Microbes to Molecules Book
Congratulations to Dr. LU Xuefeng, a Professor at Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, on his role as primary editor of the Biofuels: From Microbes to Molecules. Recently released by Caister Academic Press, the book was written as a reference for students, scientists and engineers interested in microbial biofuels.
Comprehensive and up-to-date, the books contain a total of 8 chapters written by a panel of international experts from Canada, China, Germany, Hungary, Korea, South Africa and USA. The production of different biofuel molecules including hydrogen, methane, ethanol, butanol, higher chain alcohols, isoprenoids and fatty acid derivatives, by metabolically engineered microbes, is covered in this book. Special focus is given to use some newly emerging approaches for engineering microbes including bacteria, yeast and microalgae, to enhance biofuel production. These approaches contain the design and construction of biosynthetic pathways, optimization of genetic and regulatory processes, engineering of enzymes for modified substrate specificity and improved activity, and synthesis of protein scaffolds. In addition, authors discuss current research progress, technical challenges and future development trends for biofuel production.
Professor LU was selected as primary editor based on his contributions to the fields of photosynthetic production of biofuels and biochemicals by genetic, enzymatic and metabolic engineering in microbes. In recent years, he has authored more than 30 papers in top academic journals.
This book is available from Caister Academic Press or Amazon.
