Lecture from Prof. Ryong Ryoo on QIBEBT International Expert Forum
Professor Ryong Ryoo, Distinguished Prof. in the Chemistry Department at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Director of the Centre for Nanomaterials and Chemical Reactions at Institute of Basic Science, attended QIBEBT International Expert Forum on April 15th.
On the QIBEBT International Expert Forum, Prof. Ryoo made a key lecture entitled “Progress from surfactant-directed synthesis to random polymer-directed synthesis”. He mainly discussed his discovery on the synthesis of hierarchical zeolites and carbons, elaborated the relationship between the finely designed template and the structure of resultant nanoporous materials, and underlined the importance to be very creative to generate new porous materials with fascinating functionalities.
During his stay in QIBEBT, Prof. Ryoo visited the Heterogeneous Catalytic Conversion group, and conducted in-depth exchanges with the group members. These activities lay the foundation for our further cooperation.
Prof. Ryoo obtained the ‘Leading Scientist in Research Front’ award from Thomson Scientific in 2007 for his pioneering work on ordered mesoporous carbons. He received the Breck Award from the International Zeolite Association in 2010, which is regarded as the most prestigious award in the research field on zeolites and nanoporous materials. He was selected as the third person who had the ‘National Scientist’ title in Korea.
