Prof. Yonghao Ni, professor of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry departments in University of New Brunswick, the director of Limerick Pulp and Paper Centre, attended QIBEBT International Expert Forum on November 18th.
On the QIBEBT International Expert Forum, Prof. Ni made a key lecture entitled “Forest Biorefinery Research Related to the Nano-Crystal Cellulose (NCC)”. He mainly discussed “Biorefinery based on the platform of dissolving pulp cellulose” and “Biorefinery on the basis of Nano-Crystal Cellulose”, elaborated the relationship between the cost-effective/high-value utilization of plant resources and environmental development, and underlined the importance to make best use of cellulose, lignin and hemicellulose (three main components in plant) according to their features on the platform of lignocelluloses biorefinery. In addition, he also looked into the future industrial prospects of lignocelluloses biorefinery, by introducing the most recent studies on antistatic paper tape, the application of NCC in security inks, blood glucose test strips, etc.
During his stay in QIBEBT, Prof. Ni visited the public laboratories and pilot plant, and conducted in-depth exchanges with Green Chemocatalysis group. These activities lay the foundation for our further cooperation.
Prof. Ni is a Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering, visiting professor of the city of Tianjin, and visiting professor of Tianjin University of Science & Technology.
