PNNL and Tsinghua University scientists vistited QIBEBT
Dr. Allison A. Campbell (EMSL, PNNL, DOE) and Prof. Jun Li (Tsinghua University) visited QIBEBT, CAS on May 23, 2012. Prof. Xuebing Li, the group leader of Heterogeneous Catalytic Conversion, QIBEBT, CAS hosted the seminar.
Dr. Allison A. Campbell is the Director of EMSL—the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory of PNNL, US-DOE. She had her talk with the title of “EMSL: Science, capabilities and opportunities”. She introduced the scientific opportunities for Chinese scientists, especially for young researchers, to use state-of-the-art facilities of EMSL. EMSL focuses research around three science themes: biological Interactions and dynamics, geochemistry/biogeochemistry and subsurface Science, and science of interfacial phenomena. Many examples to solve various scientific problems in EMSL were also shown in her presentation.
Dr. Jun Li is a Chang Jiang professor in the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University. He had his talk with the title of “Computational Modeling of Gold Catalysis: From cluster to surface”. Gold is undoubtedly an important material, and small clusters of gold have also attracted great attention. Prof. Li introduced his research on tetrahedral gold cluster and its application on catalytic chemistry.
