HKU and QIBEBT Sign MOU to Consolidate Cooperation

Professor WANG Lisheng, Director General of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Professor Chew Weng Cho, Dean of Engineering Faculty, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in the presence of Qingdao Mayor XIA Geng and Professor Yue-Chim Richard Wong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost of the HKU, on 13th May, 2010 in Hong Kong. 

The MOU aims to consolidate and expand ongoing cooperation in order to establish a stronger partnership in the fields of renewable energy and high-performance materials. The MOU also concerns the young scientists visit, R&D information and materials exchange and postgraduate education between two organizations. 

Mayor XIA and Deputy Vice-Chancellor WONG hope through the cooperation between the two organizations, the research and industrialization of the low-carbon, environment-friendly and green energies and materials will be accelerated, in order to make dedicated contribution to promote the development of the emerging industries in the two cities.

QIBEBT Director General WANG Lisheng, convoyed by professor YANG Renqiang, Group Leader of Advanced Organic Functional Materials at the QIBEBT also visited the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science at the HKU on 11th May, 2010. The Associate Dean of the Engineering Faculty S.T. Tan and distinguished professor D. Yang host the receptions and both sides introduced their history and mission, R&D and education planning and progress, as well as the positive scientific cooperation carried out in each organization. They all wish, through more tangible and sustainable scientific and technical cooperation between the HKU and QIBEBT, to promote the well-being and prosperity of Hong Kong and Qingdao. 

The QIBEBT delegation also holds two Campus Recruitments at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and the Chinese University of Hong Kong on 11th May and 13th May, 2010. More than 60 vacancies are open for multiple positions. The QIBEBT offers different opportunities in disciplines including Thermal Engineering, Microbiology, Fermentation Engineering, Computational Biology, Green Catalysis and Chemical Engineering. The Campus Recruitments attract over a hundred of postgraduates, postdoctoral fellows and young scientists. Some of the attendees also express their wishes to explore collaboration with the QIBEBT in the mutual interested fields.
