Biography

ZHANG Haibo obtained his Ph.D in microbiology from State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University in 2010.In July 2010, he joined Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, CAS as a faculty member. From 2013 to 2017, he worked as an associate Professor in the Biobased Materials department. He visited Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a visiting scholar in 2016. He is currently a professor and the leader of Fine Chemicals group. He has published over 30 research papers on leading journals such as Biotechnology for Biofuels, Macrobial Cell Factories and etc, and applied for more than 14 patents. He got the “Min Enze Energy and Chemical Progress Award for Young Scholar” in 2017.

Research Interests

1) Biosynthesis of basic fine chemicals, such as isoprene, 2,3-butanediol, styrene and 2-phenylethanol, in engineered microorganisms.

2) Biosynthesis of terpene-based high-density biofuels, such as pinene, sabinene, farnesene and terpinene, in engineered microorganisms.

3) Developing biosensor, bacterial microcompartments and phospholipid metabolism regulation technologies for enhancing terpene production in engineered microorganisms.
